Copy, not re-encode: why looping is instant

Under the hood the tool passes stream_loop to FFmpeg and copies both tracks straight through. Nothing is decoded, filtered or re-compressed — the encoder never runs. That makes looping the fastest operation on this site after trimming, and it means zero generation loss: frame one of repeat five is bit-identical to frame one of the original.

The flip side of copy mode is that the repeats are exact. There is no crossfade smoothing the seam, so the material itself has to carry the loop. Two kinds of footage do this naturally: motion that returns to its starting pose, and continuous textures — rain, traffic, waves, flames — where any frame could follow any other.

Building loops that hold attention

Short beats long. A 3-second action repeated four times outperforms a 12-second scene played once, because the viewer catches details on the second and third pass. Trim your clip down to the single cleanest cycle of motion first, then loop it here; the pair of tools takes under a minute combined.

For the boomerang feel — forward, then backward, then forward again — reverse a copy of your clip, merge original and reversed, and loop the result. And when the destination demands a GIF rather than a video, loop count stops mattering: the GIF format repeats forever on its own, so convert the single cycle instead.

Frequently Asked Questions

How many times can the video repeat?

Two to five times in one pass. The count includes the original play-through — choosing 3 outputs your clip three times end to end. Need more? Run the output through the tool again: a 3x looped 3x loop gives you nine repetitions.

Does looping re-encode the video?

No. The tool uses FFmpeg's stream_loop with stream copy, which writes the compressed data repeatedly into the output container without decoding anything. Quality is untouched and even long videos loop in seconds — the output just grows proportionally in size.

Will there be a pause or glitch at the loop point?

The repeats are joined seamlessly at the container level, with no gap inserted. Whether the loop feels smooth depends on your footage: if the last frame resembles the first, the seam disappears. Clips that end where they began — a full turn, a completed pour — loop invisibly.

Is the audio looped as well?

Yes, the entire file including its soundtrack repeats. Music with a hard cut at the clip boundary will be audible at each seam, so clips trimmed on a beat loop much more musically.

Why loop a video instead of letting the player repeat it?

Because many destinations do not offer a repeat toggle — status updates, story formats, embedded previews, or any player you do not control. Baking the repetition into the file guarantees the behavior everywhere the file goes.
