What a color grade is made of

Every preset here is built from the same three ingredients, mixed differently. Exposure sets the base — Dramatic lowers brightness and raises contrast for punch, Dreamy does the opposite for softness. Saturation scales color intensity, from Noir's zero to Vibrant's 1.5x. Color balance then tilts the palette: independent red, green and blue adjustments in shadows and highlights are what make Sunset golden, Arctic icy and Teal & Orange unmistakably cinematic.

That structure is why presets feel coherent rather than like a slapped-on tint — the components were tuned together, the way a colorist works, not stacked as separate filters.

Choosing a look that serves the footage

Grade with the content, not against it. Warm presets flatter food, wood, skin and lamplight; cool ones suit glass, screens, concrete and dusk. Teal & Orange earns its ubiquity on footage with people in it — skin sits in the orange band while backgrounds cool off, creating separation. Vintage and Faded forgive imperfect exposure, which makes them quietly excellent on old phone footage.

Consistency beats intensity. If you are grading a series of clips for one feed or one video, pick a single preset and apply it to every clip — a uniform look reads as identity, while per-clip variety reads as accident. And when a preset is almost right but the source is too dark or too flat, fix exposure first with Brightness / Contrast, then grade.

Frequently Asked Questions

How many color presets are there?

Eighteen, spanning practical correction and stylized looks: Warm, Cool, Cinematic, Vintage, High Contrast, Muted, Vibrant, Noir, Film, Sunset, Arctic, Emerald, Dreamy, Teal & Orange, Faded, Dramatic, Pastel and Sepia Tone. Each is a tuned combination of exposure, saturation and per-channel color balance.

What does a preset actually change in the image?

Each preset adjusts three layers: overall exposure (brightness and contrast), color intensity (saturation), and the balance between red, green and blue in shadows and highlights. Teal & Orange, for example, pushes shadows toward teal and highlights toward orange — the blockbuster grade — while Noir drops saturation to zero and lifts contrast hard.

Can I preview a look before committing?

Yes. Presets preview live on your video in the editor, and the exported grade matches the preview — the same math drives both. Processing only happens once you click Process, re-encoding at visually lossless CRF 23.

Will grading wash out or crush my footage?

The presets are tuned conservatively — Dramatic is the strongest at 1.6x contrast. Footage that is already extreme (very dark, very saturated) responds more visibly. If a look overshoots on your clip, correct first with Brightness / Contrast, then grade the corrected output.

Which preset should I start with?

Cinematic is the workhorse: slightly lifted contrast, gently muted saturation, a whisper of blue in the shadows — footage reads instantly more produced without announcing a filter. Warm flatters skin and interiors; Cool suits tech and urban shots; Faded and Pastel give the low-key editorial look.
